Does the Genus Scale detect fertilization status on day 0, before incubation starts?

Yes. The Genus Scale uses AI-powered MRI to detect the fertilization status of hatching eggs before incubation begins. Unlike candling at day 18 or early visual inspection at day 4–7, both of which require a period of incubation before detection is possible, MRI reads the internal biological structure of the egg directly, enabling classification before incubation starts.

What does pre-incubation fertilization detection save compared to candling at day 4–7 or day 18?

The current industry standard, candling at day 18,  means 18 days of incubation energy, setter space, and labor have already been spent on eggs that will never hatch. Early candling at day 4–7 reduces this waste but still results in incubated biological waste under EU regulation.

In broiler hatcheries, 8 to 20% of incubated hatching eggs are unfertilized. Pre-incubation fertilization detection at day 0 eliminates the incubation cost for unfertilized eggs. For hatcheries running at full capacity, this recovered space can be filled with additional fertile eggs, increasing total chick output without capital investment in new incubation infrastructure.
