The leading breed company for chicks and pullets, LOHMANN Genetik, LOHMANN Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, has installed the Genus Focus for in-ovo sexing at their hatchery location in Dorum, Germany.

The Genus Focus, developed by Orbem, is a contactless in-ovo sexing solution that has no impact on hatchability and complies with German regulations. We are pleased to be able to offer our customers another option for sex determination,” says Tobias Ferling, Managing Director of LOHMANN Deutschland.
The Genus Focus for in-ovo sexing is powered by Orbem, a Deep Tech company based in Munich. It leverages a combination of MRI and AI technologies to determine the sex of a chicken embryo in just one second. The technology operates in a contactless and contamination-risk-free manner. Moreover, it is a fully automated solution.
“We are thrilled to install our first Genus Focus for in-ovo sexing in Germany. This installation in Dorum enables us to offer chicks to the German market under KAT-certification and LOHMANN Deutschland’s 5D approach,” said Dr. Pedro Gómez, Managing Director of Orbem. The 5D approach ensures that eggs are hatched, raised, fed, laid, and packed in Germany.
