What Winning the Bavarian Innovation Award Means to Us

A few months ago, we received an email from the organizers of the Bavarian Innovation Award, an award that recognizes and highlights particularly innovative products and services made in Bavaria. Back in 2023, we applied to it with our first innovative solution for the poultry market, the Genus Focus for in-ovo sexing. My heart started beating a bit faster as I skimmed the email and realized that we had actually won the award. In October, our win would be officially announced at the award ceremony.

On Monday this week, we attended the ceremony and received the main prize in person. We got to see the video that was filmed about Orbem and the Genus Focus, especially for the event. We learned about the other prize winners and their exciting solutions, and we are honored to be in such good company.

We can all agree: winning an award for something that we invest so much time and effort in always feels like a huge victory. It proves to us that our dedication and commitment are seen. It motivates us to keep giving our very best each and every day. At Orbem, we strive for a better future, to shed light on the world’s toughest challenges. We take that seriously. Innovating processes such as sex determination in the poultry sector means that we create a measurable impact for the industry in terms of efficiency, animal welfare, productivity, and sustainability.

Winning the Bavarian Innovation Award means that this impact and the potential of our technology are not only recognized within the industry but also beyond. We are convinced that the potential of AI-powered Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) will emerge more and more clearly in the coming years. Even today, we are already discovering new applications beyond poultry.

Our team’s impressions

“The Innovationspreis Bayern validates the hard work and efforts that went into building our technology. At the same time, it highlights the importance of innovation with a positive impact on society, motivating further efforts to drive meaningful change and imagine new frontiers.”

Maria Laparidou  – Chief Scientific Officer

“I felt incredibly proud to see our technology, team, and impact celebrated among the group of talented entrepreneurs, technologists and representatives of the government. I am as inspired and motivated as ever to imagine new frontiers and keep pushing innovation with Orbem for a more sustainable future.“

Ksenia Yashina – Head of AI

“This award is special because Orbem was selected out of 150 nominations by an independent jury. It is a great confirmation of our work and efforts over the last years.“

Guido Kudielka – Head of Systems Engineering

“I was very thrilled about the recognition given. It has shown to us that the innovation pushed by Orbem is outstanding and appreciated by a third-party jury.”

Tamas Borbath – Head of TPM
